Class Programs

DCM DancerOur goal is to instill confidence as well as nurture poise and self-discipline that will benefit our students for a lifetime. Through dance, we believe each student can improve their overall physical condition, concentration and self confidence while also experiencing the fun and enjoyment that accompanies movement.

Our expanded curriculum is comprised of two divisions: the academic program and the recreational program. The academic program is for committed ballet students in the DCM Ballet III level and above. The recreational program includes contemporary dance techniques, young children's classes and ballet classes for students who choose to attend class once or twice per week. Students in the recreational program can choose from a variety of dance forms and may choose the number of classes they commit to per week.

The school operates on a trimester system, with three sessions (Fall, Winter, Spring), some with posted breaks. New registrations are accepted throughout the Fall and Winter sessions for all classes. Students may register for technique classes in the Spring for all classes and levels with the exception of PreBallet, Jazz Musical Theater and Tap I. This is due to ongoing preparations for the school’s Spring Production with the Harford Ballet Company. The Summer session consists of mini-camps, intensive workshops and day camps for students at all ages and levels.

The staff at DCM has cultivated a successful ballet curriculum - primarily rooted in the Russian Vaganova Method - which is used for all classes Ballet I and above. Understanding that all dance disciplines are interrelated, DCM uses ballet training as the primary means to achieving a strong foundation and enabling the mastery of other dance forms. Our class schedule has been developed to maintain traditional methods while also embracing progressive techniques in order to fulfill the needs of each student. DCM is committed to exploring new ideas in dance and education, so we may expand our program as needed to be of further assistance to our students, parents and community.
